🖤 Nicole van der Kaay’s comeback from a foot injury continues in the Eternal City where she’s the sole Kiwi on the start sheet for World Triathlon Cup Rome on Saturday (8:30pm NZ Time).Â
It’ll be the Taupo 29-year-old’s first World Cup start since she finished 16th in Napier in February and her first events under the World Triathlon banner since winning the Oceania Sprint and Super Sprint titles in Mooloolaba and on the Gold Coast in March and early May respectively.
NVDK went on to qualify for next month’s Ironman 70.3 worlds in Mabella via her maiden half in Shanghai but has struggled with the foot since. She did race Supertri Jersey a fortnight ago only to crash early on a slippery roundabout, pre-empting a premature elimination from the enduro race.
The Kiwi No.1 will be hoping for better luck in Rome where she’s ranked 4th for the sprint, behind Italians Verena Steinhauser and Ilaria Zane and the German Franka Rust.
