🏴 Nicole van der Kaay has again led the Kiwi contingent at the latest World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) stop, finishing 19th in London overnight.
The Taupō 30-year-old’s result matched her season-best at the last round in Hamburg. She was just under a minute behind winner Cassandre Beaugrand, the Frenchwoman streaking away on the run to win her third successive WTCS start. Beaugrand clocked 15:27 over the decisive 5km run compared to van der Kaay’s 16:16, the equal 16th best split.
Eva Goodisson and Brea Roderick were 28th and 30th respectively in the 46-strong field, 1:31 and 1:47 behind Beaugrand. Goodisson ran a 16:55 (32nd) and Roderick a 17:12 (36th) with both losing positions after exiting the water 24th and 29th respectively.
Saxon Morgan placed 36th in the men’s race won by red-hot Aussie Matthew Hauser.
The Cantab was 35th out of the water and recorded a 15:14 run. Interestingly, Paris Olympic champion Alex Yee produced the best 5k split – 13:52 – but could only finish 14th. The Brit’s race was effectively run when he exited the swim in 50th position of the 55 starters.
Hauser and second-placed Vasco Vilaça ran matching 14:09s with the Aussie emerging with a three second victory.
Van der Kaay is up 53 spots to 35th in the WTCS season standings, again the standout Kiwi competing in triathlon’s top tier short course circuit this season.
